“I have fond memories of watching my mom cook growing up and I remember her always cooking fried rice,” said, a DJ and producer with Chinese-Cuban roots. Both of Chi’s parents were born in Cuba—their father in Havana and mother further in Jaruco. Chi’s parents moved to the U.S. as children, and speak Spanish as well as Taishan, a Chinese dialect. Arroz frito traveled with them.
