A short daily walk or a long walk once a week is enough to lower the chance of having a heart attack, a stroke, or getting cancer, new research shows.

Exercising for 75 minutes per week reduced the risk of heart disease by 17% and the risk of cancer by 7%, according to theThe time commitment works out to be 10 to 11 minutes per day.

“We know that physical activity, such as walking or cycling, is good for you, especially if you feel it raises your heart rate. But what we’ve found is there are substantial benefits to heart health and reducing your risk of cancer even if you can only manage 10 minutes every day,” researcher James Woodcock, PhD, said in aResearchers at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, who did the study, sought to understand just how much exercise was needed to have a meaningful health benefit.
