New: Dallas DA John Creuzot ends grand jury double standard between police and civilians
Creuzot publicly revealed for the time that the office was utilizing the policy in response to questions fromCreuzot held the conference to appeal to members of the public who might have videos of Dallas police unleashing force on protesters in summer 2020 protests following the killing of George Floyd.His policy change doesn’t depart from the practice, but rather means every suspect should get the same treatment.
“We will provide guidance as to what the elements of the crime are and whether we think the elements are met,” Creuzot said. “We will answer any questions from the grand jury regarding the presentation of the case. It will be up to the grand jury to exercise their discretion--which is what they are here to do--without influence from our office.”.
