By contrast, the most prestigious companies are opening their doors to female choreographers. San Francisco Ballet, the second largest company in the U.S., has hired the brilliant Tamara Rojo as artistic director; commissioned a full-length world premiere by a woman to lead off the 2023-2024 season; and created a “choreolab” series with three female choreographers, partnering with the contemporary company ODC. Susan Jaffe is similarly transforming American Ballet Theatre.
