The city revealed Friday for the first time that members of the public likely had their personal data breached by cybercriminals in the May ransomware attack.

The memo on Thursday included new dates and information related to the cyberattack, raising questions about the city’s transparency with residents and staff regarding the nature of the attack, the city’s timeliness in responding to it and whether or not affected individuals were alerted soon enough.

Thursday’s announcement, however, indicates cybercriminals may have had access to that data for one additional day, May 4, despite those immediate efforts. While the city acknowledges that staff, and now, according to Cuellar, likely members of the public, had their personal data accessed and downloaded, it maintains that officials are not aware of any identity theft or fraud resulting from the incident.

“They had my name, Social Security number, everything. I was just lucky I caught it early,” she said.Sanchez, 59, said she saw two emails in her junk folder in early June saying her new American Airlines credit card would be mailed to her. Though she hadn’t applied for any new credit cards and hadn’t been on a plane in decades, an AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard with an $18,000 limit arrived to her home on June 7.
