The Wings had their center of the future but were scouting potential backups, knowing McCowan was going to miss a quarter of the season to play in EuroBasket. The day after McCowan reupped, the team signed Brown — who was midway through a season in Israel in which she averaged 22 points and nine rebounds — to a training camp contract.“We were trying to find another post player that was going to help when Tea was going to be gone,” Trammell said. “Her name came up.
“If I’m having a bad day, then she’s picking me up,” McCowan said. “If she’s having a bad day, I’m picking her up. We just kind of play off each other.”Advertisement “I have never been on a team that actually puts the five in a great position,” said Brown, who earned a vote for Sixth Player of the Year. “I’ve always had to kind of be uncomfortable and then work my way back into my game. But with this particular system, I can be myself.”
