“I felt blood coming out of my eye. That’s when I got really nervous. ... I was expecting stitches and being out a couple months. But by the grace of God, I’m here with two eyes now and I’m back and I’m healthy.” -- Garland
Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Boston Celtics, November 2, 2022CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Terrified and in pain, Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Darius Garland rolled over onto his stomach and felt the blood streaming out of his left eye.
As teammates huddled around him, and the training staff came over to assist, negative thoughts rushed through his head. It was late in the second quarter of the season opener against the Toronto Raptors on Oct. 19. Garland had just gotten swiped across the face by Raptors swingman -- and fellow Klutch Sports client -- Gary Trent Jr. in an accidental collision that caused the franchise to hold its breath. Garland had the same worry.
