After launching the offshore division of STX Entertainment, the veteran British exec drove the expansion of its overseas footprint. David Kosse was recognized as part of 2018's Variety500 presented by VZMediaPlatform
Kosse exited Britain’s Film4 in 2016 to launch STX’s London-based international arm, a move that re-teamed him with STX motion pictures chairman Adam Fogelson, with whom he’d worked at Universal Pictures. STX now has output deals with 33 partners around the world and its own direct distribution unit in the U.K. and Ireland. Kosse has proven instrumental to implementing the U.S.
company’s reinvention of the studio model, based on financing a dozen star-driven films per year with budgets in the $20 million-to-$80 million range — such as the spy thriller “Mile 22,” the fourth pairing of Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg — then distributing the titles to global audiences across traditional and digital platforms, with a focus on the U.S. and China. He left STX to join Netflix as VP of International Film in 2019.
