DC Council Chairman withdraws controversial crime bill
DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson withdrew a controversial criminal code bill from Congress Monday, but it's unclear if the matter will still go for a vote.
Biden and some Democrats clearly have acted in part out of concerns that the right would portray them as"soft on crime" amid rising crime in Washington. Biden had informed Senate Democrats last week in a closed-door meeting that he would not veto the legislation blocking the D.C. Council's move to soften crime laws.
