Stuart Layt, Science and Health Reporter for Brisbane Times, died in hospital on August 22 surrounded by close family. In his final days, Layt was aware of his fate and able to spend time with loved ones. He died in Greenslopes Private Hospital early on Tuesday morning with close family by his side. In parliament on Wednesday, Palaszczuk said Layt, a former member of the Queensland Media Gallery, was deeply respected., Layt worked for the AAP news wire service and radio station 4BC – Palaszczuk noted his impressive radio voice – and was as passionate about the Brisbane Broncos and Queensland Maroons as he was about “all things science”.

“Stuart was always friendly, he was always polite, and he was always professional,” Palaszczuk said, extending the government’s condolences to the Layt family.Layt is survived by wife Rose, five-year-old daughter Chloe and their families.
