Despite the Republican’s gripe about the relief money adding to the deficit, he said “there’s no reason” why the bill should not have included “the quite modest $4.4 billion” White House request for Trump's southern border wall.

It took just one lawmaker to further delay billions of dollars in long-awaited disaster relief funding for victims of hurricanes, flooding and wildfires across the country. And Democrats let the Republican congressman who on Friday blocked a vote on the bipartisan agreement know they weren’t very happy.

House members left town Thursday—before the Senate had yet struck a deal on the disaster aid bill—for Congress’ recess that will last until June 3. The aid was passed with overwhelming bipartisan support that afternoon in the Senate after receiving Trump’s blessing, despite the $19 billion aid package not including billions of dollars requested by the White House for the president’s border wall.
