Pennsylvania has been affected by a significant number of dental hygienists and dental assistants leaving dentistry

as well as increases in dentist retirements. This has resulted in dwindling availability of dental appointments.

The findings also revealed that one-third of dentists are leaving the Pennsylvania workforce in the next six years. Most of these dentists are 65 years or older and mainly located in rural counties.
