Police believe the alleged gunman is the brother of the victim's girlfriend.

A man was fatally shot Thursday night in Denton, and a 23-year-old man was arrested early Friday morning in connection with the slaying.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting about 8:10 p.m. in the parking lot of Winco Foods in the 2600 block of West University Drive, near North Bonnie Brae Street, Denton police said in a news release. When officers arrived, they found a man dead with at least one gunshot wound.Police believe the gunman left the area before officers arrived, and that there was no “ongoing immediate threat to the public.”Kendrick Freeney, 23, was booked into the Denton city jail about 1:25 a.m. Friday.
