As Disney employees staged a walkout Tuesday to protest legislation dubbed by critics the 'Don't Say Gay' bill, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis took aim at the bill's opponents.

. They want Disney to stop donating to legislators who supported the bill, stop relocating workers to Florida and stop new investments in the state until the law is repealed.also have some Florida Democrats questioning whether the party should be holding a fundraiser in June at Walt Disney World.

The governor said Tuesday that he plans to sign the controversial legislation"relatively soon." DeSantis framed the bill, dubbed by supporters as the Parental Rights in Education Act, as part of a broader effort, noting that he signed legislation last year prohibiting transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports at the high school and college levels.

DeSantis pointed to swimmer Emma Weyant, a Sarasota native who recently lost the NCAA title in the 500-yard freestyle to a transgender swimmer. “She had the fastest time of any woman in college athletics,” DeSantis said of Weyant. “Now the NCAA is basically taking efforts to destroy women’s athletics, they’re trying to undermine the integrity of the competition and they’re crowning somebody else the women’s champion and we think that’s wrong.”Follow Herald-Tribune Political Editor Zac Anderson on Twitter at
