I guess it’s somewhat of an epilogue to that album, mentally and musically,” Hynes said. “I tend to do this after I’ve made a record, but usually I don’t release it. I’ll make a whole album and I don’t tell people or I will give it to friends. I usually have no intention of putting it out, but I’m getting older and I realize I overthink stuff too much.
Considering the project is more relaxed in spirit, Hynes felt it was a good time to expand Blood Orange’s visual world in exchange. “The song, ‘Benzo,’ is pretty delicate, so I thought it would be the perfect song to maybe try and do something over the top,” Hynes said.
