The Massachusetts Senator rolled out a massive plan to help Native Americans
at his New Hampshire rally Thursday night, promising to revive his “Pocahontas” attack—“don’t worry, we will revive it. It can be revived. It will be revived. And it can be revived very easily, and very quickly,” he promised the crowd—is still attempting to navigate the charge that she lied about her Native American heritage to get preferential treatment at Harvard, and criticism over the DNA test she took to prove otherwise.
Included in her proposal: revoking permits for the controversial Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines running through tribal lands; increasing the funding for the Indian Health Service insurance agency; reinforcing protections against businesses and developers taking over sacred lands; and, critically, expanding criminal jurisdiction to allow tribes to prosecute crimes committed by non-Natives on tribal land, while increasing funding for tribal law enforcement and the justice system.
