Today, the company decoded the message. Tron Lightcycle/Run is scheduled to open April 4, nearly five years after construction began on the ride. The roller coaster in Walt Disney World will be the first new ride in Magic Kingdom since 2014, when Seven Dwarfs Mine Train opened. The Tron coaster was originally scheduled to open in October 2021 for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration but was plagued by construction delays, some due to the pandemic closures.
“The story of TRON Lightcycle / Run picks up after ‘TRON: Legacy’ where … Sam Flynn has opened a second gateway into a digital realm called the Grid,” Steven Miller wrote today on the Disney Parks Blog. The first “gateway” is at Shanghai Disneyland, where“When you enter the queue at Magic Kingdom, you’ll feel as if you’re digitized and transported to the Grid for a special Lightcycle race,” Miller continued. “It’s your Team Blue against the Grid’s menacing Programs, Team Orange.
