NEW YORK - World number one Novak Djokovic said on Saturday he read the victim statements involving former ATP board member Justin Gimelstob, who pleaded no contest to assault in April, and that the American has work in his private life that needs addressing.
“He has taken the responsibility for his actions and what has happened that night,” Djokovic, who will begin his U.S. Open title defense on Monday, told reporters. Gimelstob pleaded “no contest” to a felony battery charge in April that was reduced to a misdemeanor and was sentenced to three years probation and 60 days of community labor and ordered to complete 52 weeks of anger management instruction.
