As opinion writers, “sometimes it’s hard to know what the right thing to do is.
Perhaps, more than flying in the face of democracy, what the daily verse represents is that highest American ideal: freedom of choice. A newspaper’s right to choose what to publish, and the reader’s right to ignore it and turn the page. Or to read it and find something of value — if only food for thought.
