There's practically no difference in average intelligence between men and women. But it's a different story when you ask the two how smart they think they are.
differences. Men rated their own intelligence somewhat more highly than women did, on average, while women rated their own emotional intelligence somewhat more highly than men did. Moreover, men also rated their own physical attractiveness more highly than women did.
The authors then conducted a second experiment in a different group of 475 adults . Again, each participant had to rate their own intelligence, emotional intelligence, physical health, and physical attractiveness. However, this time the authors also tested the participants’ actual intelligence with an intelligence test. Moreover, the scientists also asked the participants to fill out a questionnaire about their beliefs in conspiracy theories.
As was to be expected, there was no sex difference in actual intelligence. Despite this finding, men again estimated their own intelligence to be significantly higher than women did. Comparable to the first study, men also rated their own physical health and physical attractiveness higher than women did. However, in this study, no difference in self-estimated emotional intelligence was observed.
Second, participants on average estimated their own intelligence to be higher than the actual average in objectively measured intelligence. That is, in general, they tended to believe they were smarter than the majority of other people, even if this is not actually the case.
