So brace yourself. It’s coming and you may not like the way it turns out. But then again, you might. Because it’s going to be different this time, right? The club is going to take on millions in salary to avoid having to trade their best prospects. Or to avoid trading too many of them. Right?
The Dodgers are going to trade for relief pitchers. Pitchers, plural. Because they need to. Or three.
The key point is this: the Dodgers have so many good young players in the minor league system this afternoon than they can possible employ at the big league level further on down the road. Some of them will turn out to be considerably better than club officials predicted internally; others who are thought of highly now will not pan out. Some from both categories will inevitably be traded. Some that you’d rather see stay.
That’s it. Just those two guys. But depending on who heads to Los Angeles on or before the July 31 trade deadline, you may end up breathing a sigh of relief about your favorite. Most of them will stick.
