Could Kyle Hurt make LA’s postseason roster?
Updated September 27, 2023 12:22 PMAfter Kyle Hurt made a dazzling major league debut against the San Diego Padres, many Dodger fans are thinking he can be a dynamite pitching weapon coming out of the Dodger bullpen in October. Andrew Friedman is considering it, although it doesn't sound likely."Yeah, I mean obviously he came up in that two-inning stint and opened a lot of eyes.
During this difficult season for the Dodgers, they had many rookie pitchers making their debut out of necessity since their pitching staff had been decimated by injuries. Some of them like Bobby Miller and Emmet Sheehan have performed well, and others like Gavin Stone needed more time in the minor leagues before they experienced success with the Dodgers.
Friedman, Dave Roberts, and Mark Prior need to assess Hurt’s ability to handle the pressure of the playoffs. If they think Hurt can perform well under pressure, he will be on the playoff roster. At this point, though, barring an injury, it seems unlikely he gets recalled and plays in October. He'll almost certainly be a weapon in 2024, though.
