Three years after director Emma Seligman broke out with her feature-length debut Shiva Baby, she returns with another new potential cult classic. Bottoms re-teams Seligman with star Rachel Sennott, who also co-wrote the script, for a queer sex-positive comedy set in high school.
The story of Bottoms takes a surprising turn from there, as PJ and Josie decide to start a fight club in school to stand up to the jock bullies and win over the affection of the cheerleaders. Emma Seligman's movie has once again earned rave reviews, as Bottoms' Rotten Tomatoes score stands impressively high at 98% Fresh from critics.
Bottoms Does Not Have A Post-Credits Scene It is confirmed that Bottoms does not have a post-credits scene in the traditional sense. Audiences who wait until the very end of the credits will be left without an additional scene featuring more of the movie's talented cast. However, there are still reasons to wait around and watch the entirety of the credits. On one hand, it allows viewers to see the names of the writers, actors, and other crew members who made Bottoms possible.
Bottoms' Outtakes Are Better Than A Post-Credits Scene Including a post-credits scene after Bottoms would have been possible if that was what Seligman and Sennott wanted to do. It could have given audiences an extra glimpse into this world or even connected to a lingering plot point or continued a previous joke. The decision to go with outtakes over Bottoms' credits is much better.
This also helps set Bottoms apart from other recent female-led R-rated comedies. 2023 movies like No Hard Feelings and Joy Ride did not include anything during or after the credits. Those movies also earned strong reviews, but their endings are arguably more sweet than comedic. Bottoms including various bloopers and other outtakes during the credits mean viewers have a better chance of leaving the movie laughing, helping improve the enjoyment of the R-rated comedy even more potentially.
