Republicans are attempting to rapidly morph our democracy into some form of authoritarian state.
What on Earth is going on in this country?
The other week I was just sitting down to have my coffee while watching CNN, when, they cut to a live shot out of Tennessee: “3 Tennessee Democrats face removal from office in Thursday vote after gun control protest on State House floor.” Why, may you ask. They did not follow House decorum and joined the protesters in demanding gun control! Decorum? Really!
Where was the decorum on January 6th when Donald Trump orchestrated and directed a violent protest to topple our democracy? 140 first responder families traumatized for life, several people killed, destruction of public property, waste of taxpayer’s money to clean this mess up, etc. To what end? Trump is still on the loose screwing things up while leaving his signature orange stain behind.
Fortunately the people spoke and both Justine Jones and Justine Pearson’s reinstatements counter Republicans’ efforts to silence them and their advocacy for gun control. Justin Jones said it best, “Today we are sending a resounding message that democracy will not be killed in the comfort of silence.”
Republicans are attempting to rapidly morph our democracy into some form of authoritarian state. Their only goal being to ensure that they remain in power no matter what the cost. This includes inhumanity, intolerance, disdain for the marginalized while promoting science denial, irrational thinking, and gun violence. If they succeed in establishing a fascist state, they won’t be returning democracy to us any time soon.
