Amidst a deepening impeachment crisis, US President Donald Trump invites Ukrainian president to the White House
President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shake hands during a meeting in New York on September 25, 2019
"I would certainly say I'd invite him," Trump told reporters outside the White House before departing for New York. His open invitation to Zelenskiy came amid his ongoing impeachment process that was launched following a phone call he made with the Ukranian president. In a July 2019 phone call, President Trump asked Zelenskiy to investigate his possible 2020 election challenger Joe Biden, and son Hunter Biden who had business interests in Ukraine.
Many critics interpreted the conversation as a threat to Ukraine to withhold hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid.
