Police have determined the driver of the vehicle that struck a woman as she crossed Main Street in East Petersburg was sober and immediately tried to help the pedestrian.

The driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a pedestrian last week immediately exited the vehicle and fully cooperated with authorities, according to Matthew Pohle, a lieutenant with the East Hempfield Township police in Lancaster County.March 8 shortly after a vehicle hit her as she crossed Main Street in East Petersburg, Pohle said.

The driver of the vehicle immediately stopped to check on McCoy-Rooney and cooperated with authorities, Pohle said.
