feature. During the interview, Bowen asked Olivia whether or not she feels like she’s reliving her past breakup every time she performs or hears “drivers license,” and it turns out that the musician has reached a place where the track doesn’t bring any sad feelings — only happy ones.
“I don’t feel that sort of heartbreak and betrayal, at least not as acutely as I used to feel it,” Olivia explained, adding that “drivers license” was the first song she ever wrote where she felt like the words and music perfectly captured the way she was feeling at the time. Add in the huge public reception and fast track to fame, and it’s understandable that the song would only bring a smile to Olivia’s face today. “This is such a sad song, but it feels so euphoric for me,” she said.
And it’s clear that Olivia is more focused on the future than she is in looking back, telling Bowen that she’s excited to go on tour with her music. She described a visceral experience at aconcert at the Staples Center a few years ago, recalling how the entire audience was experiencing the same emotions all at once.
