The five Jersey Shore bridges in Cape May and Atlantic county will see tolls double under a three-year plan that started with the first hike on Tuesday.

The Cape May County Bridge Commission toll hike plan started Tuesday with an increase of 50 cents for cars, bringing the cost to $2 at the Ocean City-Longport Bridge; Townsends Inlet Bridge ; Corsons Inlet Bridge ; Middle Thorofare Bridge and Grassy Sound Bridge . The bridge tolls will increase another 50 cents in each of the next two years to bring the total to $3 for cars. The bridge commission cited declining revenue and increasing maintenance costs for the bridges in announcing the toll hike plan.
