Drunken driver slammed into police SUV parked outside headquarters, cops say
A 28-year-old driver was arrested on drunken driving charges early Monday after crashing into an unmarked, unoccupied police vehicle parked outside of Gloucester Township police headquarters. The crash was captures on surveillance video.
The Pennsauken resident was driving east on Chews Landing Road at about 12:40 a.m. when he lost control of his car and entered the westbound lane, police said. The out-of-control vehicle then entered the police department parking lot and struck the police vehicle before stopping partially on a tree, surveillance video shows.
Officers arrested the driver, who also had an outstanding warrant out of Pennsylvania, and sent him to the Camden County jail. “We have noticed a significant increase in DWI incidents since Memorial Day through today, when compared to the same time period last year, “ Chief David Harkins said. “This disturbing trend is inexcusable in this era of available ride share services. We are very lucky that no officers or citizens were injured by this drunk driver crashing into our parking lot. We will be re-doubling our efforts to combat drunk and/or drugged driving.
