A California Highway Patrol officer said the crash occurred about 5:30 a.m. Sunday near state Route 905
A suspected drunken driver was arrested Sunday morning after he allegedly ran his car into the back of an SUV on a San Ysidro freeway, killing the other driver, authorities said.
The crash occurred on Interstate 805 near state Route 905 about 5:30 a.m. A 21-year-old man in a Volkswagen coupe was headed north at a high rate of speed when he rear ended a Honda SUV, said California Highway Patrol Officer Jesse Matias. The Honda driver, a 58-year-old Tijuana resident, suffered fatal injuries, Matias said. The man’s name was not released.The Volkswagen driver, a 21-year-old Escondido resident, was taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, Matias said.Anyone with information was asked to call the CHP at 293-6000.
