Dumb Money is the new David vs. Goliath.

Summary Dumb Money is an incredible true David vs. Goliath story centered around the stock market. It follows a group of ragtag investors led by savvy investor Keith Gill, aka Roaring Kitty, on the Reddit page r/WallStreetBets who changed the game for Wall Street using the GameStop stock. They managed to put the squeeze on two huge hedge funds, shining a spotlight on the corruption that plagues the stock market.

Rebecca Angelo: Oh, God, there was no book. There was no book. Yeah, we've watched the story unfold in real time, just kind of slack jawed, like I think most people who are aware of it, and then very quickly, Hollywood fell in love with the story, because it's a classic David and Goliath story. It's fun, it's quirky, it's weird, it's so modern and singular, and also about big things that make it timeless.

It's just people at a computer typing, so to live through it and see the deep emotion people felt, you know, people were crying buying GameStop [stock], and that was actually about something much bigger than the stock market, and about feeling small, and being able to feel big by being part of something. It was helpful to feel those feelings, and then to be able to kind of create it through different techniques with a script.

Lauren Schuker Blum: Well, yeah, we worship Craig, and we had been kind of stalking him to direct a movie of ours for years and years. Rebecca Angelo: And then it all came together so fast. I mean, some projects, you just don't get lucky, but this one just had wind at its back from the beginning. So, we feel really lucky to be sitting here today.
