Dune: Part Two is still hiding some of the beloved sci-fi franchise's weirdest characters and elements, but this is only delaying the inevitable.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Dune: Part Two still hasn't shown off some of the franchise's weirdest elements, but hiding them from the marketing is just delaying the inevitable. While the first Dune movie maintains a serious and grounded tone throughout, the film already features some pretty wacky ideas.
Dune: Part Two is the highly-anticipated sequel to Denis Villeneuve's 2021 film Dune, which itself is an adaptation of the first entry in Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi series of the same name. The first film split the original Dune book in half, with Dune: Part Two picking up many of the plot threads from the first film. Dune: Part Two will give a greater focus on Paul Atreides' time with the Fremen, as well as introduce some new characters such as Alia Atreides.
Another odd character that is absent from Villeneuve's Dune is Leto Atreides II. Leto II is the son of Paul Atreides, with Leto II becoming the last emperor of the Atreides Empire. Due to Leto's prescience, he becomes a symbiote with the sandworm, turning him into a giant disgusting slug monster. Leto Atreides II's design is far stranger than anything that has been seen in Villeneuve's universe so far, but if a Dune Messiah adaptation is to happen, he will have to appear.
The only way that these moments could be pulled off is by very slowly drip-feeding them into Villeneuve's universe. The franchise could slowly escalate the weirder parts, properly building up to things like the Guild Navigators and Leto Atreides II. So, although Denis Villeneuve's universe is incompatible with some of Dune's weirdest bits now, Dune: Part Two could attempt to fix this.
