A 42-year-old man was sentenced to six years in prison through a plea deal, after a judge ruled prosecutors failed to prove he was intoxicated.

MARTINEZ — An East Bay man who crashed a car last year, killing two passengers, was sentenced to six years in state prison through a plea deal with Contra Costa prosecutors, after a judge ruled there wasn’t enough evidence to prove he was intoxicated while driving.

Sean Christenson, 42, was sentenced to six years after pleading no contest to a vehicular manslaughter count. Christenson was identified as the driver of a blue GMC SUV that crashed on Oct. 2, 2021 near McEwen Road on Highway 4, a stretch of freeway just west of Martinez, near Port Costa. Killed in the crash were Holly Webster, 28, of Martinez, and Raymond Patillo, 40, of Brentwood. They were both passengers in the GMC.

Last November, prosecutors charged Christenson with manslaughter and driving under the influence. But in an April hearing, Judge David Goldstein found prosecutors failed to prove that Christenson was drunk at the time, court records show. After the ruling, Christenson accepted the plea deal and the six-year prison term. He is currently incarcerated at North Kern State Prison, and will become eligible for parole in 2024, records show.
