BREAKING: The eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 have been shut down at Silverthorne by a fatal traffic crash near the Eisenhower Tunnel.
The closure is expected to be extended, according to the Colorado State Patrol. Traffic is being detoured onto U.S. Highway 6 over Loveland Pass.
The two-vehicle crash involved a semi truck and a box truck, said Master Trooper Gary Cutler, a Colorado State Patrol spokesman. A passenger in the box truck died in the crash. Both drivers declined medical attention at the scene. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
