With more than 400 credits, he stayed active as a voice actor and the central character in Pixar’s “Up,” Carl Fredricksen, was written with him in mind. As a member of the Democratic Socialists of America and the namesake of the Ed Asner Family Center, Asner was a dedicated activist and philanthropist. He also played Santa Claus in “Elf” and appeared on shows like “The X-Files” and “Grace and Frankie.
