Lowry was with the department for 20 years, and this year led the department after the shooting deaths of two officers.
El Monte Police Chief Ben Lowry died Monday, Oct. 24, at the age of 45, city officials announced.
A procession was to take place around 4:30 p.m. Monday from Glendora Presbyterian Hospital to Forest Lawn Cemetery in Covina. “Chief Lowry’s dedication and commitment to the department and the residents of El Monte will never be forgotten. Throughout his tenure, he showed his love for the city of El Monte, leading with compassion and unity. I am grateful to have known and served with Chief Lowry for many years.”
He held roles in the Field Services Division, Administrative Services Division, Patrol Division, Traffic Safety Bureau, Community Relations, School Resource Officer Program, Detective Bureau, Gang and Narcotics Unit and the Records Bureau.was a graduate of Rio Hondo College, where he earned two associate’s degrees. He also earned a bachelor’s of science degree from Union Institute & University and a master’s from Woodbury University.
