A vocal critic of the Elgin Police Department came to Police Chief Ana Lalley’s defense Wednesday as a police union representative used the Elgin City Council meeting to release more details of what led to a no-confidence vote taken against her.
A vocal critic of the Elgin Police Department came to Police Chief Ana Lalley’s defense Wednesday as a police union representative used the Elgin City Council meeting to release more details of what led to a“Even though we disagree more often than not, under her administration the community has felt a small sense of accountability and less harassment that has yielded impactful results,” community activist Marcus Banner said.
Among other things, she was criticized for berating staff, blaming others for her mistakes, not trusting subordinates, misallocating funds and showing favoritism. Lalley also denied the allegations made, saying, “I value, respect and will continue to support the members of the department. They, along with the community, will continue to be my top priorities.”
Wages and working conditions are typically at the top of such surveys, but “here in Elgin, a pattern emerged of something else,” Amerson said. “A wide majority of members were responding with issues that seemed to stem from command strategy and decisions.”
