The new computer needed to operate the splash pad in Elgin's Festival Park will cost $1 million. The money for the replacement will come from bonds the city of Elgin sold earlier this year for park improvements, officials said.

The cost to replace the computer system that controls Festival Park's splash pad is $1 million, Elgin Parks and Recreation officials said.

Festival Park's splash pad is a huge draw in the summer, which is why Elgin Parks and Recreation officials say the $1 million cost to replace its computer system is a necessary expenditure. The city sold $5 million in bonds earlier this year to pay for playground equipment replacement but the parks and recreation department has since expanded the spending program to address priority needs, officials said.
