Elyria mayor calls for tips in death: ‘A young man’s life was tragically stolen’
ELYRIA, Ohio - The Elyria mayor is asking the public to come forward with tips as Elyria police investigate the death of a 14-year-old boy.
“[Monday morning, a young man’s life was tragically stolen here in our community. My heart goes out to his family and friends,” Mayor Frank Whitfield said. “I know our investigators are doing everything they can to bring those responsible to justice.”Officers found the 14-year-old fatally shot when they arrived, according to police.
Elyria City Schools have confirmed the victim was a student, and the district released the following statement: “With a heavy heart we learned this morning about the tragic death of one of our own students. We send our love and support to the victim’s family and friends as they process this heartbreaking news. Counselors are on hand in our schools to assist students and staff today and this week as needed. The circumstances of this tragedy are being investigated by the Elyria Police Department. We have no further information at this time.
