Fort Lauderdale asked Elon Musk to build a commuter train tunnel. The Boring Company talked it into a $30 million beach tunnel for Teslas instead.
," Trantalis tweeted on January 18, referring to the Magic Region pact among Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and the surrounding Broward County to draw more tech business to the area.Trantalis, 67, is a lawyer and served as a city commissioner before he won his first bid for mayor in 2018. His campaign focused on traffic gridlock and what it deemed to be an infrastructure crisis in the city.
"We are looking to meet with company executives with visits to the Las Vegas operation and then to the test site in Los Angeles and work in San Bernardino over a couple-day timeframe," Wyman wrote.Robyn Beck/Pool via REUTERS Described by the company as"Teslas in Tunnels," The Boring Company's Loop is a self-contained transportation system that consists of a fleet of Tesla cars shuttling between fixed stations. Passengers enter a Tesla and sit back while a driver ferries them through the tunnel to their destination, at which point they exit the car and other passengers hop aboard. It's like a subway, except using $40,000 cars instead of train carriages.
"Steve says Elon is out of town and not available physically," wrote Eric Johnson, a Miami Beach lobbyist with LSN Partners, referring to The Boring Company's president."They are very excited about Lauderdale."Mayor Dean Trantalis hoped The Boring Company could help Fort Lauderdale, Florida, avoid building a new bridge to support the Brightline train service, which started in 2018.Planning went smoothly until midafternoon, one day before the trip.
