We're getting our first glimpse at the actress as the infamous Disney villain.
Movie reboots, prequels, and spinoffs often garner a collective groan from fans, especially when a role that has already been expertly played is cast with a different actor. Glenn Close as Cruella De Vil, for example — she brought the originally animated character to life perfectly in the 1996 live-action version ofwould be playing the titular role in, people were OK with it , but we held back our enthusiasm out of reverence for Close's performance.
Well, the enthusiasm has been officially unleashed now that we've gotten our first look at Stone as Cruella because it's literally impossible to not look at the photo Disney shared at the D23 Expo — and then on Twitter — without having a palpable, visceral reaction. In the publicity still, we see Stone in a black, patchwork leather jacket with checkered puff sleeves, a departure from the fur coats the character is known for. It's an incredibly cool outfit, but what really stands out is the updated interpretation of Cruella's beauty look,by a '70s punk aesthetic. Stone is seen with the signature half-black, half-white hair, but instead of the straight shag the character has typically worn, it's a voluminously curly bob.
