Amblin is no stranger to stories about aliens. The production company, founded by Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, and Frank Marshall, was behind Spielberg's 1982 film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
A co-production between Amblin Television, Vice Studios, and Boardwalk Pictures, the docuseries will be directed by Yon Motskin, who previously helmed the documentary Generation Hustle. Based on the trailer, Encounters promises true stories of encounters with otherworldly phenomena.
