The EU thanks Türkiye for again being at the forefront of mediation efforts this week as the country maintained the grain agreement signed between Türkiye, the UN, Russia and Ukraine

The Turkish foreign minister and Borrell also discussed regional developments including Ukraine and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Borrell and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu met on Saturday as part of the Sir Bani Yas Forum held in the United Arab Emirates’ capital Abu Dhabi. Ankara was at the forefront of mediation efforts this week, following Moscow’s withdrawal from the grain deal signed by Türkiye, the UN, Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul in July.

Türkiye and the UN, however, managed to convince Moscow to reassess the decision, marking the end of a tense standoff that threatened to exacerbate the global food crisis.The Turkish foreign minister and Borrell discussed regional developments including Ukraine and the Eastern Mediterranean.
