The Everett Fire Department has recommended some fire prevention tips after extinguishing a house fire on Friday night.
Just after 9 p.m., firefighters were called to the 1900 block of Wetmore Avenue for a house fire. Firefighters found a row of tall evergreen shrubs on fire with 20 to 30 feet of flames, said the EFD.
An outbuilding and wooden fence got some charring and some siding on a house was damaged by the fire. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is being investigated. “Great job by our firefighters, who worked to protect surrounding homes while they quickly extinguished the fire, preventing the fire from spreading,” said the EFD.Keep barbecue grills far away from anything that can burn like decks, homes, building sidings, cars, dry vegetation, etc.Dispose of smoking materials in proper receptacles and douse materials in water, not in planters, beauty bark, or out of the car window.
Remove long grass, weeds, or anything that can burn from around homes, including limbs that touch buildings or hang near roofs. Remove dead plants or bushes as soon as possible and clear roofs and gutters of pine needles and leaves.
