Besides advertisements and violence-inciting content, politicians' speech will not be subject to the same rules required of everyday users on Facebook

The policy applies to any content from a politician that isn’t an ad, said Nick Clegg, Facebook’s vice president of global affairs and communications, during a speech at the Atlantic Festival in Washington, D.C. The company implemented an exemption three years ago that allowed content violating the rules—for example, nudity or violence—to be permitted on the site if Facebook deemed it newsworthy.
In June, Twitter said that it would not prohibit politicians’ tweets that violated its rules, if the politician met certain criteria for noteworthiness. For Twitter-verified government officials with more than 100,000 followers, the company instead introduced a notice to preface these tweets that states: “The Twitter Rules about abusive behavior apply to this Tweet. However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the Tweet to remain available.
