Published: Feb. 5, 2024 at 4:34 PM AKSTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - A structure fire in downtown Fairbanks on the morning of Saturday, February 3, led to a multi-departmental response in punishing winter temperatures. The Fairbanks Fire Department initially responded to the Alaska Motel on South Cushman Street, before being redirected to the actual site of the fire, the Alaska Motor Inn on Lacey Street.

The conflagration was largely contained to the room itself, and no injuries or deaths have been reported. Andrew Coccaro, Fire Chief at FFD, said, “We’re fortunate to have the folks over at the Fairbanks Emergency Communication Center, the FECC. They do a great job. Usually, when we do end up with an address that isn’t correct, it’s usually on the caller’s end.

Coccaro estimates that six to 10 people were present in the building when the department responded, but it is unclear whether they were paying for their occupation.Copyright 2024 KTVF. All rights reserved.
