) - Fairhope PD hosted a community meeting called “Dangers of Fentanyl” at the Fairhope High School gym on Tuesday.
People of all ages came out to ask questions and hear how lives were changed because of the deadly drug. Speakers shared testimonies about their loved ones killed by the drug. “You may think you know what’s going on, but all it takes is one pill,” said Tracie Carter, whose son was killed by fentanyl. “You send your kid off to college, and they get that one Adderall pill to stay up late studying, but they may never make it to that test.”
According to Fairhope Police, a lethal dose of street fentanyl weighs two milligrams—which is equivalent to a few grains of salt. Five hundred doses weigh as little as a raisin.Parents shared how their lives were changed after their children died. “We keep hearing until the right kid dies, nothing is going to be done, and when I hear that, that hurts me because I think, ‘Who are the right kids?’” said Mike Reese, ABC Board. “If my kid is not the right kid, then who are they? The way I look at it is, they all count, or nobody counts.”
