Warriors open TAPPS baseball playoffs today with Veritas Academy
Canon Thompson trots home after belting a grand slam against state-ranked Bay Area Christian this season. Thompson will be trying to stir the offense for starting pitcher Ryan Towe when the Warriors open the TAPPS playoffs today.On the surface, Pasadena-First Baptist Christian Academy’s state playoff baseball game Thursday afternoon could be somewhat easy, if the team can stay away from its achilles heel.
FBCA head coach David Turner views their state playoff foe as a potentially dangerous team, one that has played in a difficult district. John Paul II won District 3 with a 7-1 record and 13-9-1 overall ledger. Holy Cross, San Antonio Lutheran High and San Marcos Academy are the other district teams. Go down their schedule this season and it’s a recurring theme. Among the worst collapses was the 5-0 lead they had on state-ranked Bay Area Christian at their place and gave it away because of a poor frame.
Is it the team’s youthfulness? There’s just two seniors on the roster so there could be something connected to that aspect of the team.
