De Leon Barba is a United States citizen; the FBI said she was kidnapped while walking home from work with her dog, while the Facebook page asserts that she was walking to a local gym at the time of the kidnapping.

Gustavo urged readers to bring the kidnapping to the attention of state politicians and U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar. He cited numerous kidnappings reported in Mexico; in a recent case,after their group of four was kidnapped from the border city of Matamoros. “Since the time of my sisters’ kidnapping we have all seen the news of multiple US Citizens that have been robbed of their freedom while traveling in Mexico,” he wrote. “We cannot allow this to be the status quo and I will not allow my sister to become another statistic of cowardice and inaction in politics.”
