The site, open from Jan. 1 to Jan. 12, will provide free PCR tests to all New Jersey residents, up to 1,000 per day, with results in about 24 hours.
The site — at 90 Halsted St., in the city’s Division of Senior Service’s multi-purpose room — will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 1 to Jan. 12 to provide free PCR tests to all New Jersey residents.
The effort is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s “Increasing Community Access to Testing for COVID-19 Surge Response Effort,” which targets underserved communities with free tests, East Orange officials said. There are nine federally-run testing sites in New York City, with three more on the way, and new sites are set to open in Philadelphia and in Washington, D.C.
And while cases have been going up, so too has the demand for tests. At-home rapid antigen tests, which could easily be found at drug stores,, as people were screening for the virus before gathering with friends and family.
